Why HolaFix exists
I moved to Los Alcazares in 2025. Third day, the AC died. 38 degrees outside, two kids melting, and I don't speak enough Spanish to explain “the unit makes a clicking sound and then nothing happens.”
So I did what every expat does: posted in a Facebook group. “Anyone know a good AC guy who speaks English?”
Got 14 replies. Good ones. By the time my neighbor had the same problem two months later, those replies were buried under 6,000 posts about padel tournaments and residencia appointments.
That's the problem. Expats recommend great tradespeople to each other all day long — in Facebook groups, over coffee, at the pool. But those recommendations vanish. Every week someone asks the same question, and every week the community answers it again from scratch.
HolaFix is the place where those recommendations become permanent.
What this is
A free, community-driven directory of handymen and tradespeople recommended by expats like you. Think of it as the searchable version of your Facebook group's collective knowledge.
- You recommend someone you've actually hired
- Others find them when they need help
- The recommendation stays — it doesn't sink in a feed
No star ratings (for now). No anonymous drive-by reviews. Just real recommendations from people who logged in with their Facebook account, put their name (or a handle) on it, and said: “I used this person. They were good.”
How we make money
Right now? We don't. HolaFix is free for everyone — people looking for help and the tradespeople being recommended.
We'll add small, clearly marked ads to keep the lights on. Later, tradespeople who claim their profile might get the option to feature themselves (always labeled, never disguised as organic recommendations).
We will never:
- Charge to remove a recommendation
- Let anyone pay for a higher ranking without a clear “Featured” label
- Sell your data
- Spam your inbox
Who's behind this
I'm Erik. I live in the Los Alcazares area with my family. I build web things — playascerca.com (every beach in Spain, mapped), golfnear.io (golf courses nearby), skyalert.io (sky events).
HolaFix exists because I needed it myself and figured others do too. It's not a startup with investors and a growth team. It's one guy in Punta Calera who got tired of scrolling Facebook.
Something wrong? Something missing?
Tell me: erik@holafix.es
I read every email. If a recommendation is unfair, a profile is wrong, or you just have an idea — I want to hear it.
What's next
Working on: more areas beyond Los Alcazares, photos in recommendations, and a way for tradespeople to respond when someone recommends them.
Want something specific? Tell me.
